Viber has updated the requirements for message templates

Published: 3 september 2026

⚠️
Please note: from October 1, 2026, Viber will start rejecting messages sent using templates that do not meet the new requirements.

As of July 1, 2026, Viber has updated its requirements for message templates. As a result, some previously created templates no longer comply with the new rules and have received the ⚠️ status.

To avoid problems with message delivery, we recommend checking your Viber templates as soon as possible. If a template has the ⚠️ status, it must be recreated in accordance with the new Viber requirements.

Main template requirements

When creating a new template, the following rules must be followed:

  • template text — up to 500 characters (without double spaces);
  • no more than 8 variables — from %1% to %8%;
  • the value of each variable — up to 125 characters, without links (URLs) or line breaks;
  • there must be at least one space between adjacent variables;
  • the template cannot start or end with a variable.

For dynamic information in the message — such as the customer's name, order number, confirmation code, or delivery city — use variables in the format %1%, %2%, etc.

Example

To send the message:

Good afternoon, Serhii. Your order №765434 has been shipped.
Tracking number 850000034155, please expect delivery to the city of Kyiv ✌️
Have a great day!

You need to use the following template:

Good afternoon, %1%. Your order №%2% has been shipped.
Tracking number %3%, please expect delivery to the city of %4% ✌️
Have a great day!
